Off the Ground Youth Theatre - the most dynamic and exciting youth theatre in the region. Off the Ground Youth Theatre is based on the Wirral and is the only youth theatre in this region to offer such a wide range of on-stage, back-stage and film experience.

All our members have the opportunity to take part in productions at  prestigious outdoor venues and theatres. During the weekly sessions members will also be able to write, act, direct, dance, design, sing, learn stage combat, practice improvisation skills, and work on scripts from Shakespeare to Stoppard.

OFF THE GROUND YOUTH THEATRE

Off the Ground Youth Theatre is the only youth theatre in this region to offer such a wide range of stage experience. From Shakespeare to stage combat and physical theatre, from new writing to devised horror shows or stand-up comedy. Whatever you want to try your hand at, Off the Ground can cater to your tastes.

Off The Ground Youth Theatre is a part of OTG Theatre and all youth theatre projects are lead by professional actors, directors, writers and musicians. This term's principal tutors are Dan Meigh (OTG’s Artistic Director), Daniel G Cambridge (writer of The Musketeers, Monkey, The Magnificent Seven Samurai, and Director), Pete Darwent (actor, including in OTG’s last 10 summer tours) and Connor Wray (writer and actor whose work includes Zorro, Sinbad & Robin Hood). Off the Ground also invite visiting tutors to run sessions on different aspects of theatre - recent visiting sessions have included devising, mask work and clowning.

Older members of the youth theatre have the opportunity to audition for Off the Ground Theatre’s international tours.  The 2019 summer’s production of A Midsummer Night's Dream toured Northwest England, North Wales and Ireland and featured seven members or ex-members of the youth theatre.

All of our members are given the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of theatre work. Recently OTG members have, amongst other things, performed world youth theatre premieres of new plays, completed a sell-out run of Animal Farm, performed Hamlet in Oh Me Oh My in Liverpool and turned Royden Park into a nightmarish forest for a Halloween special.

OTG offers more than any other local youth theatre. So if you’re just a beginner or keen to make a career, let us help you get off the ground.

What we teach

YOUTH THEATRE GROUP

TIMETABLE

Off the Ground Youth Theatre is taught on a term-by-term basis, following traditional academic terms of Autumn, Spring and Summer. We have three groups, separated by age/academic year. Each group meets once per week at the drama studio at Calday Grange Grammar School. Here, they will work on practitioners or styles of theatre, workshopping and learning new techniques, or will rehearse toward current productions.
