Plas Newydd Gardens
Plas Newydd is notable as the home where two Irish ladies, Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby (the Ladies of Llangollen) eloped and set up house together in the late 18th century, scandalising contemporary British society. Plas Newydd was originally a five-roomed stone cottage, but over the years it was enlarged to include many Gothic features. Although originally ostracised by their families, the ladies and their unconventional lifestyle gradually became accepted, and their home was visited by many famous people including Robert Southey, William Wordsworth, Caroline Lamb and Sir Walter Scott, the Duke of Wellington and the industrialist Josiah Wedgwood.

Off the Ground Youth Theatre was formed in 1996 and is an absolutely vital part of the company. Our students have the opportunity to study with working professionals and to take part in professional-level productions - all youth theatre projects are lead by working actors, directors, writers and musicians. Off the Ground Youth Theatre is the only youth theatre in this region to offer such a wide range of on-stage, back-stage and film experience. Older members of the youth theatre are encouraged to audition for OTG’s touring productions, and many have had their first professional job with Off the Ground.
As well as running the youth theatre Off the Ground also works with schools, community groups and theatre companies throughout the Northwest, North Wales and the Republic of Ireland. We have managed performance projects in Spain, Greece, Italy and Ireland, devise and perform workshops both here and abroad, run INSET training as well as delivering a comprehensive school’s workshop programme.
On top of all this OTG also produces touring open air theatre shows for performance in theatres, outdoor venues and schools.
Off the Ground Theatre believes in giving as many people as possible the opportunity to partake in theatre. All our tours operate a strong youth policy which means employing young professionals and, in the case of our summer tour, working with professionals and amateurs.
We aim to provide training to those who wish to expand their skill-base, employment to those embarking on a career, and a fine evening’s entertainment to those who want a night out!
