OTG YT's oldest group bring this classic Brecht musical to modern day Merseyside. Grungy and political, it looks at the hierarchies of life on the wrong side of town...
Modern day Merseyside. The criminal underclasses are excited for King Charles III's impending visit to Liverpool, and the opportunities it will bring them for a bit of ill-gotten cash. Meanwhile, Polly Peachum, daughter of a prominent 'businessman', is courted and married in secret to that most notorious of criminals, Macheath, better known as Mack the Knife.
A socialist critique of an increasingly capitalist world, The Threepenny Opera doesn't shy away from the truths and brutality that hold up the criminal underworld. In this world, everybody is on the take, from the Chief of Police to the beggars themselves. What it reveals about them, or those above them, or in any class, is for you to decide.
